Debbie Whitley Director / Head Trainer

From an early age I fell in love with all types of animals but closest to my heart have always been dogs- whether they are my own or ones I work with.

As a child I would help my relatives who owned Cocker Spaniels. I would groom, play with, train or take for walks.

At school I took this love of dogs a stage further and for work experience spent two idyllic weeks at a local Boarding Kennels and Cattery. I must have been good because I was at first offered weekend work and this quickly developed into new opportunities leading to the offer of full time employment. I made myself indispensable and was promoted to a managerial role. I was responsible for the everyday running and organisation of the kennels and cattery, led the staff and supported our customers.

At this time I rescued my first dog- Kinty- a beautiful long coat GSD and began to teach her obedience and agility. This opened new horizons for me as I looked for experience and knowledge in dog training. I approached A1k9, a dog training company in Wales and spent a happy week there on work experience.

From day one I fell in love with the way of life and moved to Wales to work full time at A1 K9.

For the next three years I worked full time training executive personal protection dogs for a range of clients including professional sportsmen and families overseas.

At A1K9 I met Richard, who is now my partner, and together we have looked for the opportunity to be our own bosses and put into practice our own unique training ideas and methods.

In 2010 we decided to move to Leicestershire to set up a new business in partnership with Richard Osborn and Chaperone K9 was born.
